Le groupe Kool and the Gang débute sa carrière internationale au début des années 70, fraichement formé de Robert Bell, Ronald Bell et Denis Thomas au saxophone, Robert Mickens à la trompette, Georges Brown à la batterie et Claydes Smith à la guitare. Ils composent des titres de légende, comme « Ladies Night » et vendent des millions d’albums aux Etats Unis. A la fin des années 70, le chanteur James Taylor rejoint l’équipe et avec lui, le groupe connaitra ses années de gloire ! Les années 80 sont marquées par des tubes en série, tels que « Get Down on it », « Celebration » ou encore « Fresh ». La décennie suivante est plus discrète, quant aux années 2000, le groupe continue de donner des concerts à travers le monde.
